The Marion Housing Code is enforced through scheduled inspections of all residential rental property in Marion and specific situations identified through citizen requests or City employee observations of potentially unsafe living conditions.
Marion does charge fees associated with, but not limited to, landlord licenses, rental inspections, inspection no-shows and confirmed complaints.
Online Payment for Landlord License Renewals and Rental Housing Invoices:
Landlord License* - Complete the required online Landlord License Renewal form. Then payment may be made online via the instructions below.
*Landlord Licenses will not be issued without completion of the Landlord License Renewal form.

All payments may also be made in person at City Hall or mailed to the address below.

Rental Properties Include:
- Buildings or units owned by one party and lived in by another party known as a tenant
- Friends or family members living in a building or unit you own but do not live in (even if they do not pay you rent)
If you have a new rental property or no longer have rental property in Marion, please fill out the Rental Housing Registration Form and return it to:

Rental Inspections:
Regular inspections of all rental dwelling units, including rooming houses, congregate housing, single-family housing units and independent group residences are all subject to rental inspections. Inspections are conducted every two years. The City of Marion currently has over 4,500 rental units and conducts over 2,200 rental inspections each year.
Housing inspectors investigate all complaints alleging violations of the Housing Code. To file a complaint please contact the rental housing division.
Rental Assistance Program:
The Housing Services Office administers the Section 8 program, which is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). This program is designed to accommodate low-income families and individuals with rent assistance for decent, safe and sanitary housing provided by private owners and rental agents.
