The Marion Civil Rights Commission is hosting its third speaker in a new series to encourage dialogue relative to civil rights issues. The next presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 in the Council Chambers at Marion City Hall (1225 6^th Avenue, Marion).

Carol Meade, director of behavioral health services at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital, will discuss the impact of adverse childhood experiences. She will use scientific evidence to show that adversity during development increases the risk of physical, mental and behavioral problems later in life. The program is offered free of charge and the public is encouraged to attend.

Meade is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who earned her Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1990. She has worked in mental health and education fields for over 27 years as a therapist, school social worker and more recently in leadership positions.
