Fair Housing Month Event

The Marion Civil Rights Commission will celebrate Fair Housing Month with an event on Wednesday, April 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Marion Public Library, 1101 6th Avenue.

The format includes informational booths and presentations regarding service animals and companion animals and the housing-related implications.

“The Civil Rights Commission is focused on helping residents understand individual rights particularly in the areas of employment, housing, credit, public accommodations and education,” said Chairperson Renae Forsyth-Christy. “We want to use Fair Housing Month to help the community better understand the rights of individuals who have service or companion animals.”

The event will include a proclamation by Mayor Nick AbouAssaly, a presentation by Sheri Ross regarding the training of service animals followed by a session with Eric Skogman on the laws surrounding service animals and companion animals.

Confirmed exhibitors include the Marion Civil Rights Commission, Marion Cares, Waypoint, MEDCO, Habitat for Humanity and Deafinitely Dogs. Additional vendors will be added as space allows.

All are welcome to attend.
