The City of Marion will host the final scheduled Pop-Up Act in the Artway of 2024 on Friday, Aug. 30, from 6-8 p.m., featuring music by Casey Klein. Two additional performances (each rescheduled from a previous date) will occur on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Friday, Sept. 13.

Marion City Hall and other City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Labor Day. It will be delayed by one day, taking place Tuesday through Saturday instead.

The refurbished caboose will be the focal point of a new pocket park, Draper Park, that celebrates Marion’s railroad history. The Grant Wood Trail follows the former railroad right-of-way and connects several Marion parks, including Waldo’s Rock Park, City Square Park and Thomas Park.

The semiannual installment of property and mobile home tax statements are being mailed this week and will be arriving in mailboxes soon. The deadline to pay the first half of property taxes without penalty this year is Sept. 30, 2024. A penalty of 1.5% will apply to late payments beginning Oct. 1.

The regional trail and bikeway system within the Corridor Metropolitan Organization's planning area boundary is being refreshed with new wayfinding signage and trail branding. Part of this process is getting input from the public to help the project team understand how to update these crucial items.

The outage was first detected overnight, and staff responded immediately. All public safety systems have been restored and are fully operational. Work continues on other online systems and workstations, and the IT Department anticipates having everything restored by the end of the day.
