City Council Votes to Pause Aquatics Park Project
During their Sept. 4, 2025 meeting, Marion City Council voted 6-1 to hold off on putting the proposed outdoor aquatics park on the November ballot. Staff will be working with the resident-appointed steering committee to discuss next steps associated with replacing the aging Marion Pool.

City Offices to Close in Observance of Labor Day
Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Labor Day and will be delayed by one day all week, happening Tuesday through Saturday instead.

Marion to Celebrate the Installation of "Echoes of Marion" Sculpture in Central Plaza
This week, Marion community leaders will celebrate the soon-to-be-installed art sculpture in the Central Plaza at City Square Park (1001 7th Avenue, Marion). A dedication will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. in the northeast corner of the park.

Phase 1 of Boyson Road Patching Project Completed; Work Begins on Phase 2
Phase 2 will close Boyson Road from Alburnett Road to Central Avenue. The current detour, which uses C Avenue, Tower Terrace Road and Alburnett Road will remain in place with specific modifications for Phase 2.

August 15 Events Cancelled Due to Weather
The City of Marion is canceling its Moonlit Movie originally planned for this evening, Aug. 15, at Lowe Park. Additionally, Pop-Up Acts in the Uptown Artway featuring The Party McFlys has been postponed.

"Are You Ready For It? A Taylor Experience" to Start at 6 p.m. Due to Weather Forecast
Based on the National Weather Service forecast for this evening, and for the safety of the performers, staff and attendees, the “Are You Ready For It? A Taylor Experience” concert at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, is now planned to start at 6 p.m.

City and Monarch Research Partner on Fall Community-Wide Tree-Planting Effort
Marion residents and landowners who commit to the planting, watering and protection of the trees as they become established can register online for up to three free 3-gallon trees provided by Monarch Research. This program targets right-of-way areas.

Marion to Celebrate National Night Out on August 5
This year, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Marion Police Department is partnering with the Marion Fire Department and other City departments to organize a community-wide event from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Park, 343 Marion Blvd.
