Proposed Development Aims to Transform Former Marion Library Site
A new mixed-use real estate development is being proposed for the former Marion Public Library site on 6th Avenue, between 10th and 11th Streets in Marion. In collaboration with the City of Marion, this potential project will be led by Gronen (Dubuque, IA) and Kilbourne Group (Fargo, ND).

City of Marion Announces Presidents Day Schedule
Marion City Hall will be closed to the public on Monday, Feb. 17, for annual cleaning. Other City facilities, including Police, Fire, Public Services, Parks and Recreation, Marion Water Department and the Marion Public Library will be open normal business hours.

Marion Lifts Winter Storm Parking Ban Issued for Saturday, Feb. 15
The City of Marion has called off the Winter Storm Parking ban that was issued for Saturday, Feb. 15. The National Weather Service has reduced the amount of snow in the forecast and it no longer meets the 3 inch threshold for an on-street parking ban.

Snow Removal Operations Completed; Parking Ban Lifted
City crews have completed snow removal operations in Marion from Wednesday’s storm as of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The on-street parking ban for all city streets has been lifted and on-street parking can resume. The ban was in place to minimize the hazards associated with snow removal operations.

Marion Police Chief Mike Kitsmiller Announces Retirement Plans
During his time in Marion, Kitsmiller helped modernize the 911 dispatch center and records management systems, both of which improved the department’s efficiency. He helped lead the City’s derecho response and recovery efforts and initiated an online community transparency page.

City to Allow On-Street Parking in Select School Zones; Other Parking Restrictions Remain in Effect
In partnership with the Linn-Mar and Marion Independent school districts, and to accommodate schools that rely on on-street parking, the City of Marion plans to lift the parking restrictions on select streets at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Garbage/Recycling Collection Delayed by a Day for Wednesday-Friday Routes
Winter Storm Parking will be in effect from noon on Wednesday, Feb. 12, until noon on Friday, Feb. 14. Parking on all City streets is prohibited while Winter Storm Parking is in effect to minimize the hazards associated with snow removal operations.
