Using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, the City of Marion has partnered with the Housing Fund for Linn County to provide an owner-occupied housing rehab program for Marion residents. The program can assist income-qualified Marion homeowners with up to $20,000 in project-related costs.

At approximately 13:01 today, the Marion Fire Department was called to Marion Hy-Vee, 3600 Hwy 151, for a small fire inside the business. The first arriving crews noted smoke and a small fire under a refrigeration unit. The fire was quickly extinguished. All employees and occupants were evacuated.

Marion Mayor Nicolas AbouAssaly was named the inaugural Mayor of the Year honoree among cities with more than 2,000 in population by the Iowa Mayors Association. The award was presented at the Association’s business meeting on Sept. 20, 2023.

For the past 30 days, the City of Marion has been issuing warnings to vehicle owners when their automobiles were caught on the Automated Traffic Enforcement cameras speeding or running a red light. The City is announcing that the warning period ends today.

This advisory will affect the City of Marion’s final derecho project for reimbursement of Management Costs, as all other projects have been obligated. We continue to work with the state to release funds on the obligated projects, including those pending closeout.
