Engineering Department Initiates Adoption of Statewide Urban Design and Specifications

Post Date:10/14/2015 10:29 AM

Marion is moving forward in the process to adopt the Statewide Urban Design and Specifications (SUDAS) and replace the locally developed design and construction standards known as Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area Design Standards and Specifications.

The change will better align the City of Marion’s infrastructure construction standards with those developed, accepted, and maintained statewide in Iowa.

To introduce the substantial differences between the two manuals, Engineering Department staff has prepared a summary of changes and draft supplementary specifications to provide for transition from the existing to the proposed. These resources can be found at http://tinyurl.com/MarionSUDAS.

In addition, a public open house has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m. to provide contractors and the public with an opportunity to ask questions and provide input. Additional public input will be sought at the public hearing scheduled for Nov. 19.

Written comments regarding the SUDAS Specifications or Supplementary Specifications can be directed to Michael D. Barkalow, P.E. & L.S.I., Assistant City Engineer, Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, Marion IA 52302 or via email.
