  • Fireworks & Fireflies to Light Up the Marion Sky on July 3

    On Wednesday, July 3, Marion will host its 5th annual Fireworks & Fireflies celebration. This free event will take place at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy live music by FunkDaddies starting at 7 p.m. plus food trucks, face painting and fireworks at dusk.

    Fire Damages Home on Edwin Drive in Marion; Sends One Person to the Hospital

    The first crews on the scene found a single-family home with moderate smoke showing. With the assistance from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews were able to bring the fire under control. One of the residents of the home was transported to the hospital.

    Weekly Marion Farmers Market to Open on May 4

    The Marion Farmers Market reopens for the season on Saturday, May 4, at Taube Park, 2200 31st Street, Marion. The market will be open every Saturday from 8-11 a.m. through Sept. 28, 2024. In addition, Marion City Council members will hold their weekly office hours at the market.

    Most of the off-site underground utility work has been completed and the focus now has shifted on-site. Next, crews will be installing new storm sewer, plumbing and electrical components along with an irrigation system and foundations for the chiller.

    Marion Announces 2024 Moonlit Movie Series at Lowe Park

    Inflatables will be available each evening starting at 7 p.m. and face painting will be offered for a fee. The feature presentation will begin around 8 p.m. Outside food and drink are permitted but select snack vendors will be onsite. Guests should bring chairs or blankets for general lawn seating.

    On May 15, at 6 p.m., participate in the Linn County Ride of Silence to remember those lost in cycling accidents across the nation. The ride will start and end at the former Marion Public Library lot across from City Square Park in Marion. It will travel on busier streets with a police escort.

    A community kick-off open house is planned for this Thursday, April 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center, 4500 N. 10th Street, Marion. There will be no formal presentation. The success of this initiative relies heavily on community input.
